Some Pride, both in my yarn and in my school

So I haven't done too much crocheting and knitting lately because school has been so busy, but I have managed to get a little bit done on some of my projects. Maybe if you consider spending my entire Friday crocheting on my pride afghan, Granny Got Pride, and finishing it this morning. Of course this is really the only thing I have been working on besides a lot of baby hats, and a lone sock.

So I started this afghan at the beginning of the school year, and I finished it on the last day of the first 9 weeks.(for anyone who doesn't know, we split up our school years in Florida into two semesters and each semester consists of two quarters, each consisting of nine weeks, approximately) It is pretty nice, it came out a little differently than I thought it would, but I love it none the less, plus I have some rainbow sock yarn I will definitely be using later on.
That I proudly showed off to my tumblr a couple of weeks ago(plus I got it on a super sale!!!)
I have quite a bit left over from my afghan. I might make a rainbow scarf out of it. Chevrons anyone?!
I guess I have been teasing long enough,
Here it is, in all its homosexual glory
I kind of forgot to mention that I kind of have an instagram, kind of
I am comradeaustin, and I guess I am just getting deeper and deeper into the hipster lifestyle, as my jeans get tighter and tighter and my imaginary glasses get thicker and thicker rims.

So I am always super happy with my school this time of year. We are all finally getting into the groove of the school year, plus I get a half day on Thursday and Friday I get off completely. Best of all it is Mister and Misses New World. It is a pretty common tradition in normal highschools to have a pageant of their students, usually having a Mr *Insert Quirky Pun on the Name Of the School*, and they have the attractive and popular men showcase themselves. But in case of my amazing school (although I am sure it happens in other places) it is two days of cross dressing, with the girls dressing as men on Wednesday and the real show happens on Thursday with the boys dressing as fabulous women. They attempt to collect money for the charity United Way, but most the time they are having to much fun fooling around in high heels to remember to ask for money. To be honest this isnt a bad thing because United Way isn't a great charity, it has a history of corruption in Miami, and I don't like it much. But it is still lots of fun, and it is a lot more fun that listening to our homeroom teachers heckle us for money.

Now most of the time Mrs. New World is much better than Mr. New World, mainly because the women think that the best cross dressing costume is a grungy boy look with saggy sweat pants, a wife beater, and a snap back hat, but there was a notable stand out
This is my beautiful friend Becca, who dressed as a gentleman, and brought a cane, and spoke in a snooty british accent the entire day, which is wonderful commitment(photo credz, to speak in the vernacular, to Chantal Acacio, do you see my lovely scarf, it made it this year out of some wonderful alpaca, but I have to shave before I wear it because it sheds onto my facial hair)

And then the spectacle of Mrs New World assualted me in first period. The wonderful thing about this day is that the boys always go all out. They borrow dresses and get into their high heels and they strut, and boy do they strut.
This is the beautiful Sam, quite pretty(photo by Chantal Acacio)
And here is me and big Momma Alex, isn't he so enthusiastic for a freshman
Normally most of the freshmen boys are pretty hesitant about it, but this year there was an awful lot of turnout by them. You always see a lot of the really conservative and really straight boys sort of traumatized  but they get used to it, wait till spirit week, it gets even more awesome.
Now the reason I am so proud of my school is that we can do this, and have lots of fun, and none of the teachers and administrators care, even a lot of them join with us. I have a feeling that we aren't the only school that does this, but no one thinks that it is stupid, even the snarkiest of people love it. Probably one of my most favorite holidays of the year.

So I have a lot of gay pride, but that isn't the only thing I am proud of. I am proud of my awesome open minded school where I can have this pride. I am proud of my beautiful and creative friends. I am most of all proud of how awesome the human race can be, I know all this excitement is just chemicals in my brain, but damn, do they feel awesome.
